located on the shores of Lake Superior and
the St. Lawrence Seaway System, Thunder Bay
is the second largest city in Northern Ontario.
Often
referred to as "the Lakehead" or "Canadian Lakehead" because of its
location at the end of the Great Lakes navigation, the Thunder Bay port
is the 8th largest in volume out of the 19 ports serving the Great
Lakes. In 2004, Thunder Bay reported its best season in three years. The port handled 8.5 million metric tons, up 3% from 2003. |
